Mike Ford has parted ways with Top 14 side Toulon with immediate effect.
The former Bath Rugby coach was only appointed head coach of Toulon in October of 2016. However, he has been shown the door by the French side with Richard Cockerill taking charge until the end of the season.
Toulon had already announced last month that Ford would be leaving the club at the end of the season and was set to be replaced by Fabien Galthie. However, after the French giants were knocked out of the Champions Cup on Sunday, circumstances changed with immediate effect.
A brief statement released on the club’s website on Tuesday morning read:
“Toulon rugby club and Mike Ford have parted company by mutual agreement as of Monday April 3 2017.
“Richard Cockerill will take charge of the first team, assisted by Marc Dal Maso.
“Matt Giteau has agreed to lead the backs while continuing as a player.”
Toulon will hope to put the managerial issues to one side as the club face Toulouse on Saturday in a game that is of huge importance if they wish to keep their playoff hopes alive.
Toulon are currently leading Pau and Castres by a single point in a congested division that sees Bordeaux in seventh and Racing 92 in eight just four points behind.
