Pundit Arena has gained exclusive rights to broadcast this Friday’s Barbarians double-header at Thomond Park, Limerick. The first game will be an historic occasion as Barbarian FC field their first-ever women’s side to take on Munster.
Given the recent #Legacy campaign supported by many current and ex-players and supporters, Pundit Arena are delighted to be ensuring that this historic women’s match can be seen by as many fans as possible, following August’s Women’s Rugby World Cup in Dublin and Belfast.
Following the women’s match, the Barbarians men’s side will take on Pacific Islanders Tonga as ‘the world’s greatest rugby club’ look to close off their world tour in style.
The games will be available to watch free of charge, only on the Pundit Arena website at www.punditarena.com/tv. The match presentation will be led by Pundit Arena’s Head of UK Rugby, commentator Nick Heath (TalkSPORT, Sky Sports, BT Sport) with co-commentary from Niamh Briggs (Munster/Ireland – 57 caps) and Isaac Boss (Leinster/Ireland – 16 caps). Pundit Arena’s Head of Rugby Sean McMahon will support coverage online and across social media.
“The Barbarians have always sought to innovate on and off the field and we’re delighted that a global online audience will have free access to two high-quality matches through our partnership with Pundit Arena,” said Barbarians Head of Communications Simon Mills.
“The first Barbarians women’s match, against Munster, is a landmark moment for us and the game against Tonga should be an explosive encounter. They’re both sure to entertain a worldwide audience.”
It will be Pundit Arena’s first foray into broadcasting, as the company continues to grow in strength, providing more and more high-quality content to their fans.
Richard Barrett, Pundit Arena co-founder and COO, emphasised the importance of providing unique content to their rugby fans, the largest social media following of its kind in the rugby world, “This is an exciting move for our company, and one that we have no doubt will be a major success. We’re built on providing unique, quality content and the Barbarians double-header certainly fits this bill.
“Ensuring this historic first Barbarians women’s match is broadcast free-to-air is a vital step to continue the exposure of the women’s game as it continues to go from strength to strength. We’re four years old as a company, and this is a major statement of our intent to continue to expand.”
Pundit Arena co-founder and CEO, Ross O’Dwyer, said, “The model for TV sport is rapidly evolving and we want to be part of the move towards bringing sport away from the big box in the corner towards devices in hand through live streaming.”
