Harelquins Backrower Set To Be Sidelined For Autumn Internationals

Harelquins backrower Jack Clifford is set to miss England’s upcoming internationals against South Africa, Fiji, Australia and Argentina later this year after suffering an ankle injury during Quins’ 36-25 defeat by Exeter last weekend.

Clifford limped off in the 55th minute during the second-half of Sunday’s high scoring defeat and will now undergo ankle surgery followed by a ten-week stint on the sidelines that will rule him out of all four of England’s end-of-year internationals, with December an early timeline for the flanker-cum-number 8’s return.

“It is very disappointing and unfortunate that Jack has sustained his injury,” Quins director of rugby John Kingston is quoted as saying by the BBC.

“He is a fierce competitor and I have no doubt he will work exceptionally hard to get himself back on the field as quickly as possible.”

Clifford has eight international caps for England after making his international debut against Scotland earlier this year and the 23-year-old has also featured as a replacement in all five of England’s matches during this year’s Six Nations, whilst coming off the bench in in the second and third tests against Australia this summer.
