In what was one of the biggest days of his professional career, Marin Cilic’s Wimbledon final has turned into something of a nightmare.
The former US Open champion, in the Wimbledon showpiece for the first time in his career, but from early on it became apparent that this was not going to be his day.
Already one set down and with rampant Roger Federer cruising 3-0 on the way to a second, the Croatian broke down and began sobbing, the reason why this was happening was not yet clear.
Not looking good for @cilic_marin.

Clearly struggling (either emotionally or physically), Cilic conceded the second set 6-1 as Federer made serious gains on winning a record eighth Wimbledon title.
It later emerged that the 28-year-old world number six was suffering from a massive blister on his foot which made movement extremely painful, those watching in the stands cheered him on with every point he won in the third set, while those watching at home could only sympathise with what Cilic was going through on the biggest occasion he will likely ever be a part of.

The Centre Court punters have stopped shouting for Federer and started supporting Cilic out of sympathy. Crowd psychology.

Not nice to see, this.
Such a decent bloke, Marin Cilic. He’ll be devastated, embarrassed. But he’s clearly injured. What can you do?

On the biggest stage, a damning injury, against an overwhelming favourite.. Can’t imagine what Cilic must be going through #WimbledonFinal

Bit painful watching #WimbledonFinal. Cilic is not coping well. Somebody give him a hug. Even Federer looking a bit sheepish.

At the time of writing, it’s 2-2 in the third set and from here it would be a massive shock if Federer doesn’t see this one out and take home the trophy.
