“It Just Makes You Want To Push Harder” – Nicole Turner Looking Forward To Home Comforts

Brought to you by

The World Para Swimming Allianz European Championships get underway at the National Aquatic Centre on Monday 13th August.

Ireland will have seven athletes representing their country with pride at this event and in the build-up to this much-anticipated championship, we will be profiling each of the members of Team Ireland.

Next up is Nicole Turner who hails from Portarlington in Co. Laois. The 16-year-old is Team Ireland’s youngest member and she has just completed her Junior Cert. She won two silver medals and a bronze at the European Championships in 2016, in addition to reaching the final at the Paralympic Games in Rio.

Turner was born with dwarfism and she will compete across six events in the S6 classification. The 50m butterfly is her most promising event and that takes place on Saturday 18 August.

Ahead of the European Championships next week, Turner spoke about her excitement to be swimming in front of all her family and friends.

“I’m really excited, I’m into my last preparation of training and to think that it’s at my home pool is incredible.

“All my friends and family are coming and just to think that they will be in the stands cheering me on, it just makes you want to push harder. I’d literally be nowhere without them…their support is incredible.”
