Last night saw the opening matches of the NBA season with both of last season’s finalists, the Golden State Warriors and the Cleveland Cavaliers featuring.
The Warriors suffered an opening season loss to the Houston Rockets, falling to a one-point margin 121-122 at the Oracle Arena in Oakland.
The Cavs were involved in their own tightly contested affair when they came up against the Boston Celtics, the first time the sides have faced each other since Kyrie Irving made his controversial transfer from the Cavs to the Celtics.
Many expected this would be the main talking point of the night but unfortunately the game was overshadowed by a sickening injury to Gordon Hayward which took place just five minutes into the 27-year-old’s debut.
Hayward signed a four-year $128 million free agent contract during the summer and went up for an alley-oop pass and collided with James.
Hayward landed awkwardly and suffered a dislocated ankle and a fractured left tibia.
Warning: This is pretty graphic so proceed with caution!
As you can see from the audio, a hush almost immediately surrounds the arena in Cleveland when the severity of the injury is realised by everyone in attendance.
Hopefully Hayward makes a successful recovery from this injury.
