Disappointment As Irish Relay Team Disqualified From Final

There was disappointment this morning for the Irish relay swimming team at the European Championships as they were disqualified from competing in the final.

The Irish 4 x 100 Medley Relay team of Conor Ferguson, Darragh Greene, Brendan Hyland and Shane Ryan looked to have secured their passage to the final at the Tollcross Centre in Glasgow when they finished third in their heat behind Lithuania and Russia.

Their time secured the final qualifying spot for the final but the team were disqualified for an illegal changeover.

Organisers confirmed that Greene left the board too early in the changeover by 0.08 seconds.

Elsewhere, there was disappointment on the track for Ireland as Mark English and Zak Curran both failed to progress from the heats of the 800m.
