The 2017 World Championships have been the last hurrah for sprinting legend Usain Bolt and the Jamaican ran his last ever race late on Saturday evening.
The eight-time Olympic gold medallist announced last year that he would officially retire from the sport following the London games and competed in his last individual event last week as he claimed a bronze in the 100-metre final. Christian Coleman finished second behind Bolt’s long-time rival Justin Gatlin.
Tonight was the final time we will ever see the Kingston man on the track and the excitement was palpable in the stadium before the big event. In a dreadful turn of events, he pulled up shortly into his leg due to a hamstring injury. Great Britain went on to win in a massive shock in front of their home crowd at the Olympic Stadium.
Regardless of how it ended, Bolt will never be forgotten not only by athletics enthusiasts but by all sports fans such is the influence he’s had.
