Watch: Cody Garbrandt Campaigns For Instant Rematch With Dillashaw, “I’m The Better Fighter”

UFC 217 was one of the greatest cards in recent MMA memory with the Madison Square Garden event surpassing the high level of expectation widely held for it.

It was fantastic to see such a hyped card live up to and exceed its billing.

The three titles that were on the line each changed hands as every champion was dethroned. Joanna sensationally fell to a Rose Namajunas first-round KO in the women’s straweight division where as the returning Georges Saint-Pierre created history by clinching the middleweight title from Michael Bisping via third-round rear-naked-choke.

Elsewhere on the card, the co-main event saw the coming together of two former teammates turned heated rivals. Cody Garbrandt lost out via second-round KO to TJ Dillashaw in the first defence of the bantamweight title he won at UFC 207.

The pair embraced and expressed respect for each other after the fight which was a joy to behold after the ferocious animosity displayed throughout the build up to this fight which was almost a year in the making. However, both competitors admitted that the mutual respect lays in the octagon but not outside of the cage, where their venomous rivalry is set to continue.

While Garbrandt faced up to his loss and took it admirably, it was clear in the aftermath of the bout that he was struggling to come to terms with what had happened. The former champ was evidently finding it difficult to accept his defeat as he insisted that Dillashaw had just merely won an exchange and that a rematch has to happen.

Despite the devastating loss, ‘No Love’ maintains that he is a superior fighter to his conqueror. Ariel Helwani documented the pair’s post-fight press conference thoughts.

TJ had other ideas…

Check out Cody’s backstage post-fight media scrum where he states his intention to rematch his nemesis immediately as well as giving his thoughts on what went down on Saturday night.
