Daniel Cormier Posts Massive UFC 219 Update Regarding Tony Ferguson And Khabib Nurmagomedov

This could be huge…

Tony Ferguson and Khabib Nurmagomedov were scheduled to fight back at UFC 209 for the interim lightweight championship of the world but that fight disastrously fell apart at the last minute on the count of Khabib physically succumbing to his weight cut.

Since then it appeared as though business in the 155 lbs division had moved on, leaving Nurmagomedov behind.

Conor McGregor is the current champion of the weight-class while Ferguson holds the interim belt having defeated Kevin Lee recently at UFC 216.

While the entire MMA world awaits the return of the sport’s biggest star, McGregor, it still remains to be seen when such will come to fruition. The Irishman had made it clear who his next opponent would be in the Octagon before losing control and causing a chaotic scene at a recent Bellator event in Dublin. Conor had revealed that his next venture in the fight game would be his first title defence, a unification bout against Ferguson, with the UFC seeking to have that clash signed sealed and delivered for the big end-of-year UFC 219 card on December 30th.

However, given the fallout from his pretty much disgraceful behaviour at the aforementioned Bellator event in the aftermath of his teammate Charlie Ward scoring a knockout victory, it appears as though we won’t be seeing ‘The Notourious’ in action until mid-2018, slamming the brakes on any plans for the 29-year-old to headline the 219 card.

Well, in his prolonged absence, the opportunity for an old spark to be re-ignited has risen, and that is exactly what has happened according to UFC light-heavyweight champ and accomplished analyst Daniel Cormier.

Check out what the Russian’s teammate at American Kickboxing Academy, DC, had to say tonight:

Will Ferguson hold out and wait in the wings for Conor to make his eagerly anticipated comeback as the ‘AKA’ representatives are implying, or will he jump in with ‘The Eagle’ to make the end-of-year card, which already has Holly Holm vs. Cris Cyborg slated, a barnstormer for the ages?

Whatever happens, it should be fun to see how this one develops.
