Artem Lobov’s Response To Welterweight Galore Bofando’s Call-Out Was As Badass As You’d Expect

After dispatching SBG Ireland’s Charlie Ward in brutal but rather strange fashion on Sunday night in Glasgow, wonderfully named UFC newcomer Galore Bofando had a few words for another product of the famous Dublin gym, Artem Lobov.

“Now we have to sit down as a team and discuss what’s next,” said Bofando when asked about future plans during a post-fight media scrum. “There was talk of Artem Lobov before at 155 pounds, which could be an interesting fight. I think I (would) beat him(via MMAJunkie).”

If there was indeed talk about a fight between Bofando and Lobov, we hadn’t heard it. Given that Bofando made his promotional debut at welterweight and Lobov has fought at featherweight for all but one of his five official UFC bouts, it seems like a slightly odd match-up to discuss.

However, Lobov isn’t one to worry too much about size disadvantages. ‘The Russian Hammer’ is one of the ‘fightingest’ men in the entire UFC and the rather unimposing nature of his professional record, which stands at 14-13-1, is often attributed to his willingness to travel into enemy territory, take fights on short notice and compete in heavier weight-classes during his pre-UFC career. He also fought and had success at lightweight on ‘The Ultimate Fighter’ and he has competed as high as a 165-pound catchweight in the past, so Lobov was unlikely to balk at the idea of fighting the much bigger Bofando at lightweight.

And, he didn’t balk.

Responding to the news, delivered by MMAJunkie’s Chamatkar Sandhu on Twitter, that he had been called out by Bofando, Lobov wrote, “Everybody knows my answer to all them turkeys…send him in!!!”

Classic Artem.

Lobov was last seen losing to top-rated featherweight contender Cub Swanson in a five-round war in the main event of a UFC Fight Night event in Nashville in April. The loss ended a two-fight winning-streak for the adopted Irishman.

With the win over Ward, Bofando, who was fighting for the first time since February of 2015, moved to 5-2 as a professional. It was his fourth win via KO/TKO.
