Watch: Colin Cowherd’s Idea For How McGregor Can Beat Mayweather Is Actually Pretty Solid

Most sports pundits are absolutely certain that Conor McGregor has no chance of beating Floyd Mayweather should a boxing match between the pair ever take place. However, Colin Cowherd had some interesting things to say when discussing the proposed bout…

As is the case with many American talk show hosts, Colin Cowherd is regarded as a master of hyperbole. However, in discussing the proposed Conor McGregor vs Floyd Mayweather super fight, the commentator actually came up with a pretty solid suggestion for how the Irishman should approach the bout.

UFC Featherweight Champion Conor McGregor Gym Day

Cowherd isn’t exactly regarded as an expert in either boxing or MMA, but the 53-year-old does have a clear interest in both and, in recent years, he has had several big names from the world of combat sports on his couch.

Speaking about McGregor/Mayweather, the commentator acknowledged that the Irishman had next to no chance in a boxing ring with the undefeated American. However, in the very same conversation, Cowherd outlined a strategy that he believes may cause Floyd to make a mistake.

Floyd Mayweather Jr. v Manny Pacquiao

If I was Conor McGregor, my game plan would be to be a disruptor. I would tackle him, I would rattle him, I would go after him. I would headbutt him. I would get penalized. I would get points taken off. I would get into his head. I would do anything I could to ramp up Mayweather and induce him to make a mistake and get close.

What Mayweather wants is to control the environment; punch, jab, punch, jab, land, punch, jab, hook, punch, score. Don’t get touched. If I’m McGregor? I wanna wrestle. I want it to be a bar room brawl. So I would go right after him and I’d border on inappropriate.
