It Looks Like We Finally Have A Good Idea Who Eddie Alvarez Is Fighting Next

Ever since Eddie Alvarez was obliterated at the hands of Conor McGregor at UFC 205, many fans have been waiting to hear how the ‘Underground King’ will rebound.

Having been finished in the second round of their Madison Square Garden main event, Eddie Alvarez acknowledged that he put in a shocking performance on what was the biggest fight of his career.

Eddie took some time off with his family over the Christmas period until recently, he posted an announcement on his official Instagram account confirming that he would be making a comeback in the not too distant future.

Shortly thereafter, the ever reliable Ariel Helwani confirmed that the UFC was in fact looking at booking a titanic match up between Alvarez and Nate Diaz. However, with Nate rejecting the fight, that bout soon fell apart.

With Nate Diaz off the table, Eddie Alvarez’s options are relatively limited with the majority of the top ten ranked light weight contenders either injured or already booked in another bout.

Lightweight rankings

Edson Barbosa is already booked to take on Beneil Dariush in March. Tony Ferguson will take on Khabib Nurmagomedov at UFC 209. Rafael Dos Anjos has moved to welterweight. Dustin Poirier is out for a considerable length of time after his recent bout with Jim Miller, and Nate Diaz is simply refusing to fight.

However, posting on his official Instagram account on Friday afternoon, Michael Chiesa gave a pretty strong indication that it will in fact be the ‘Maverick’ who takes on Alvarez next.

Chiesa has a professional MMA record of 14-2 and is currently on the back of a three fight win streak. With Alvarez looking to rebound after his brutal performance at UFC 205, Chiesa should certainly prove to be a massive test for the Philly fighter and a bout that the fans can look forward to.
