MMA Personalities React To Conor McGregor Frenzy At Bellator 187

Conor McGregor created yet more controversy tonight at Bellator 187 in his hometown of Dublin.

His SBG Ireland teammate Charlie Ward was in action against Paul Redmond at the 3Arena. Having seemingly earned a knockout victory (over which there was dispute), Ward was immediately greeted by McGregor, who had stormed the cage in a fit of passion.

Referee Marc Goddard, the official that told off McGregor for his antics at the Artem Lobov vs. Andre Fili contest in Poland last month, separated the two, which incensed the ‘Notorious’ one and led to a confrontation.

During a victory lap, the Irishman scaled the cage once again. As an official pushed McGregor while he was high up, the UFC lightweight champion threw a slap in response.

The scenes have garnered widespread criticism and condemnation, though some of the Dubliner’s peers saw some humour in the mad situation.

Chief among the critics was the ever controversial Colby Covington. The welterweight contender endured his own chorus of disapproval following his comments directed at Brazilian fans after his win over Demian Maia last month. He also has a chequered history where Ireland is concerned, as he once feuded with SBG’s Cathal Pendred.

Former UFC title challenger turned commentator and analyst, Dan Hardy, shared his disappointment and thoughts on why McGregor acted in such a manner, as did ex-bantamweight Brad Pickett.

Former Bellator lightweight champion Will Brooks, now competing in the UFC, had a short and succinct response.

However, fellow UFC lightweight Nik Lentz and cult hero Rory MacDonald had rather different reactions.

Given that McGregor has acted dramatically out of turn and given massive publicity to a competitor, UFC president Dana White’s response is well worth looking out for.
