Joe Rogan and Brendan Schaub recently detailed an idea they had for the retirement fight of the former middleweight champion Michael Bisping.
UFC 217 was a night of fights that will live long in the memory and following the handover of three different UFC titles on the event’s main-card, the entire landscape of the sport managed to turn completely inside out.
In the strawweight title fight, of course, the world were collectively stunned as the hotly-tipped champ Joanna Jedrjezczyk was stopped in the very first round by Rose Namajunas, a fighter who was a massive underdog in the eyes of the bookies. In the co-main event, the feud that existed between Team Alpha Male’s Cody Garbrandt and TJ Dillashaw was resolved in what amounted to a stunning contest that saw Dillashaw emerge victorious.
Both fights could have easily headlined their own fight-card on their own but, of course, the night’s marquee event – the middleweight title-fight between Michael Bisping and Georges St-Pierre – caught the majority of the attention and thankfully, it delivered on every level.
GSP’s layoff of four-years didn’t see him lose too much of a step as he put an absolute clinic on the British champion Bisping. He did encounter some adversity midway through the fight when he appeared to slowdown but fortunately for him, his experience and legendary fight-IQ saw him through to a third-round submission win.
For Bisping, his divisive title-reign came to a crashing end at the hands of ‘Rush’ and now, with him flirting with the idea of hanging up the gloves for good, the fans – love him or hate him – will no doubt look back fondly on his truly awe-inspiring UFC run.
On a recent edition of The Joe Rogan Experience Podcast, host Joe Rogan and his guest Brendan Schaub managed to come up with a truly mouth-watering idea for the retirement fight of the future-Hall of Famer Bisping and in truth, it would be one helluva send off to the veteran ‘Count’.
