Watch: Dillon Danis Gives Insight Into McGregor’s Future In The UFC, Training & Fight With Mayweather

Conor McGregor’s training partner Dillon Danis has given the world his own unique insight into the Irishman’s highly anticipated fight with Floyd Mayweather as well as his opinion on his future in the world of MMA.

Grappling phenom Dillon Danis’ name is one that is synonymous with the UFC’s lightweight champion for many reasons but in recent times he has managed to carve out his own reputation as a result of his rather outspoken and brash personality.

Danis is something of a divisive figure, yes, but with him edging closer and closer towards making his professional MMA debut under the Bellator banner, it’s fair to say that his antics of late have done nothing but help him in laying the groundwork for what could be a very interesting transition.

Classed among the very elite in the art of Brazilian jiu-jitsu, Danis was approached by Team McGregor in the lead up to Conor’s UFC 202 rematch with Nate Diaz to help him prepare for whatever threats his opponent might bring to the table if the fight hit the mat but after months of training, the pair seemed to hit it off, with McGregor even calling Danis something of a protégé in his eyes.

Now, with Danis’ attention surely fixed on making his own mark in his new sport, his role in McGregor’s latest fight camp will be minimal given that he himself is making the switch from one combat sport to another, taking on the unbeaten boxing superstar Floyd Mayweather on August 26th.

Danis spoke to TMZ Sports recently and gave his own insight into the controversial match-up as well as his own thoughts on McGregor’s fighting future in the UFC.

“I mean, he can do what he wants. He’s the one that they’re all trying to get a fight with in boxing and in MMA. He has his options.

“MMA is his passion so I would think that he would go back to that but I don’t know, he has options.”

Many have put forth the idea that Conor’s lucrative tussle with Floyd will cause him to reach a financial peak so high that it would make the idea of fighting for a much lower sum almost laughable for the Crumlin native, but Danis, after getting to know the man behind the fighter, does not believe that money is McGregor’s sole motivator.

“I don’t think so, he loves it, that’s his passion and at the end of the day we’re all competitors so I think he’ll come back to fighting.

“Whatever he wants to do, he has options. I think so, I know him, this is what he loves, this is his passion so I think so.”

For many, McGregor has little to no chance of handing the 49-0 Mayweather his first career loss but despite the fact that he holds no experience in professional boxing, his career has been made on the back of scoring some truly awe-inspiring knockouts, with his most famous win coming just 13 seconds into his UFC 194 meeting with the legendary José Aldo back in 2015.

Though some are choosing to give Conor a ‘puncher’s chance’, Danis seemed willing to go one step further, promising that his teammate will not only be able to hang with Floyd, but will likely knock him out inside six rounds.

“Right now he’s just doing boxing. I don’t just think he’ll hang with him, I think he knocks him out. 100%. I think a little bit more dragged out [in comparison to his Aldo KO], Mayweather is a little bit better at avoiding the shots but I think maybe under 6 [rounds].”
