One of UFC 217’s standout performers has issued a terrifying response to the next man who he feels he is destined to take on.

UFC middleweight Paulo Costa broke out in a big way at last weekend’s UFC 217 by absolutely mauling the former-welterweight champ Johny Hendricks in what was a pretty emphatic destruction.

11 fights, 11 wins and 11 finishes can be found on the resumé of the man known as ‘the Eraser’ but with his latest win, he managed to budge his way into the top-15 and announce himself on the scene in a big way on what was the biggest stage the year has provided to date.

Now, with his eye seemingly on a showdown with Derek Brunson, Costa spoke to MMAFighting’s Ariel Helwani and laid out a pretty terrifying threat to his would-be opponent, showing his surpreme confidence in his skills, confidence be made crystal clear during his annihilation of Hendricks at the weekend.

“I have no (doubt) I can erase him too. I can. Derek Brunson, I can erase you, but I will not erase you completely because I will make you famous in my score of knockouts.”

“I’m ready to fight against Derek Brunson (or) against a top 10 fighter, but I’d like to fight against him. Now my name is in the top 15. I think one more fight to go to top 10, and one more fight to go top 5, and top 5 I can go to title shot. Two or three fights.”

Brunson’s reputation as a fast starter and a proven finisher would certainly make for a thrilling showdown if the UFC do put this together and despite coming off of a loss in what was a memorable scrap with the current-interim champ Robert Whittaker, is known widely as one of the division’s more underrated fighters.

Costa’s potential has been clear for some time now and with him now ranked as the 15th middleweight on the planet, expect to hear big things from ‘the Eraser’ in 2018.
