Darren Till split fans down the middle last week after making some brutally honest comments about his mindset whilst in the depths of fight-preparation.
Speaking to the media in attendance during UFC 227’s fight-week, Till didn’t hold back when explaining his unquestionable drive to compete – citing a cold callousness as an essential ingredient in his rise to the top.
“You can’t have worries outside of this game.
“I’ve got a girlfriend who’s nearly seven months pregnant. I don’t really care. I’ve got a daughter in Brazil right now who I haven’t seen for one year. I don’t really care.
“I just care about legacy and greatness. That’s what I’m in this for.”
"I'm in this for people to say at the end of it, 'you were the greatest.' That's my only mentality, f*ck money and f*ck everything else." – @DarrenTill2. Watch full interview: https://t.co/FRtZ8wNly6 pic.twitter.com/NaNf7ixVzl

His comments attracted quite a bit of attention from both the fans and the media and while, on the surface, it may have appeared as though he had made a huge error in judgement, in reality, Till was making a point about his commitment to fighting more than anything else.
Speaking to the good folks at Obviously Fight Talk, ‘The Gorilla’ made it clear that his comments were blown completely out of proportion.
“My girlfriend and my daughter, they know what’s what. [My girlfriend] was right next to me when I was giving that interview, and she was laughing.
“Some people just need to stop trying to be offended. It might have come off as I don’t give two f**ks, but right now, it’s all about me until September. I have to be selfish. After the fight, everyone knows it’s downtime and holidays and going to see my daughter.”

The life of a fighter is often one riddled with unseen sacrifices and for Till, his position as one of the world’s most highly-touted fighters didn’t happen overnight.
Seeing everything come together in the manner that it now has carries an added pleasure for the Liverpudlian as he prepares for the biggest fight of his life.
“There were some days I couldn’t eat, because I just gave my whole life to the fighting, and it’s now paying off.”
