Stephen Wallace’s spell in charge of the Offaly footballers has come to an end.
A statement released on Wednesday night confirmed that, following a meeting of the county board, a decision has been made that Wallace would not continue in his role as the fallout from events in Portlaoise last weekend continues.
The board have also confirmed that steps will be taken to install an interim management team:
“Following a meeting of Coiste Bainisti Uibh Fhaili on Wednesday 16th May 2018, the decision was made that Stephen Wallace should not continue as Manager of the Offaly Senior Football Team. An Interim Management Team will be appointed as soon as possible.”
There had been reports of a player bust-up after Offaly’s Leinster SFC defeat to Wicklow on Sunday. Indeed, the situation at one point was reported to have deteriorated so badly that his relationship with some players had reached breaking point – though RTE Sport have since alleged that the players had signed a letter outlining their continued commitment to playing under the Kerry native.
