It was a good start to the day for Tyrone in Croke Park. With their senior side set to face Dublin in the All-Ireland semi-final at 4:00 pm, their under-17 side got proceedings underway in Headquarters.
Tyrone faced Roscommon in the opening under-17 All-Ireland football final, with the Red Hand youngsters getting their hands on the inaugural trophy with a 2-18 to 0-15 victory.
One of the biggest talking points after the game was the goal scored by Darragh Canavan for Tyrone. The name is synonymous with Tyrone football and the son of their greatest ever player has whet the appetite for Tyrone supporters, in that the second coming of Peter Canavan has already started the showcase his talents in Croke Park.
Tyrone led by four points with ten minutes remaining, and Canavan picked up possession close to the Roscommon goal and unleashed an unstoppable shot to the top corner of the net.
Tyrone will be hoping that a similar result will repeat itself in the senior game, but so far today, Darragh Canavan is the man stealing the headlines.
