Champions Survive A Scare And All The Harty Cup Quarter-Final Results

The four quarter-finals of the Dr Harty Cup took place this Wednesday afternoon as the premier competition in second-level hurling in Munster whittled itself down to just four teams.

The last three champions – Tipperary duo Our Lady’s, Templemore and Thurles CBS, as well as Ardscoil Ris of Limerick – were all in action across the province.

Defending Harty and All-Ireland champions Our Lady’s needed an injury-time point to escape the test of John the Baptist Community School, Hospital.

The champions needed to show all of their resolve to reach the final quartet as their title defence stays on track.

The south Limerick school won the ‘B’ competition last year and have shown avast improvement in recent years.

Ardscoil Ris, who have lost three Croke Cup finals since 2010 kept up their impressive record at provincial level with a facile victory over Gaelcholaiste Mhuire AG.

The Limerick school had an early goal from Clare senior panellist Diarmuid Ryan as they cruised to victory.

Thurles CBS, Harty champions in 2015, like Ardscoil Ris before them, went on to lose to St Kieran’s of Kilkenny in an All-Ireland final.

However, it wasn’t to be for them this year as they suffered a one-point defeat to Middleton CBS.

The Cork school are one of two from the Rebel County to reach the last four.

They are joined in the last four by CBC Cork who defeated St Colman’s in the other quarter-final.
