Steven McDonnell Was Quick To Bask In Armagh’s Victory Over Tipperary

Armagh got by Tipperary in the qualifiers today, as a second-half comeback saw them reel in last year’s All-Ireland semi-finalists to dig out a two-point victory.

This was a hugely anticipated clash between the two sides, as the League game earlier in the year set the scene. A late goal by Michael Quinlivan sealed the win for Tipp away to The Orchard County, securing promotion to Division 2 for 2018, and denying Armagh in the process.

Naturally, the Tipp celebrations were in full swing at the end of that game.

This clearly was fresh in the memory of Kieran McGeeney’s outfit, as they headed for Thurles today with revenge in their minds.

After their hard-fought two-point victory in Semple Stadium, there were jubilant scenes amongst the Orchard faithful, as they look ahead to the final 12 of the championship, an outcome not many would have foreseen after their tame loss to Down in Ulster.

2002 All-Ireland winner with Armagh, Steven McDonnell, was quick to remember the tweet from above, as he rejoiced at full-time.

Although Tipp’s year is over, they certainly proved that 2016 was no fluke, and have plenty of positives to take forward despite this loss.
