It’s Clear That The Giants Are Excited About Signing Cora Staunton

Mayo ladies football legend Cora Staunton has quite the decorated CV. The four-time All-Ireland winner has been recognised as one of the very best in the business for years, and led her county back to the All-Ireland final this year, where they ultimately fell to Dublin.

However, Staunton looks to pastures new now, as she is keen to make a name for herself in Australian Rules.

The season is played out through the Irish winter, and there are several transferable skills which could benefit Staunton upon her move.

The deal was announced overnight.

Giants coach Alan McConnell spoke of his excitement at the move, and it’s clear they’re expecting big things.

“Cora Staunton is probably the surprise package of the selections in the draft. Cora comes from an elite background of football in Ireland having been nominated 10 times All-Ireland (All-Star) in GAA women’s competition. She recently played in the All-Ireland final at Croke Park in front of 46,000 people, on the back end of that competition, unfortunately losing.

“She’s a goal-kicking forward, so we’re looking for her to bring some goal-kicking power to our team as a deep forward.”

Exciting times ahead for Staunton, and best of luck to her!
