Those who have been watching Barcelona closely this season will admit that they have not been at their best by their own sky high standards and are possibly on the decline as a resilent Real Madrid have built up an early lead in La Liga.

However, Barca were at their imperious best against local Catalan rivals Espanyol at Camp Nou on Sunday, putting in their best performance of the season.

Luis Suarez gave the home side an 18th minute lead with the aid of a sublime pass from the classy Andres Iniesta.

Suarez doubled his and Barca’s advantage in the 67th minute but this goal will be known for the outrageous build up play, first by Iniesta, then by Lionel Messi, who sensationally dribbled past the entire opposition defence.

Magic as the sheer skill had viewers in disbelief. However, Messi can do anything and it should not surprise us. A genius on the football pitch. The greatest player ever and we are lucky to witness the Argentine’s brilliance.

Jordi Alba made it 3-0 just a minute later with a quickfire goal and who else other than Messi provided the assist as he sliced through the Espanyol defence for the second time in a minute.

David Lopez pulled one back for the away side on the counter attack but Messi wrapped things up in the last minute with a deserved goal of his own to make it 4-1.
