Rising Irish Star Ryan Manning Rewarded By QPR After Breakout Season

Irish under-21 international Ryan Manning has been rewarded for his fine form at Queens Park Rangers last season with a new contract.

The former Galway United midfielder broke into the QPR first team under manager Ian Holloway last December, going on to score one goal in 18 appearances for the Championship side.

The 21-year-old also made his first appearance for the Irish under-21s this year, and Holloway’s glowing endorsements of him have been a massive factor in the club extending his stay at the club by one year to keep him at Loftus Road until 2020.

Speaking to the QPR website after signing the new deal, Manning expressed his delight at the club’s show of faith in him, as well as his determination to get them back into the Premier League:

“I am absolutely delighted to have signed an extension.

“It’s great reassurance for me. Hopefully, in the next three years, we can build something, start finishing at the right end of the table, and then get back to the Premier League.

“It’s been seven months since I made my debut, and it’s a crazy story really when you think about it.

“To come from Ireland and playing in the League of Ireland to playing regularly in the Championship like I was last season, it’s something I am definitely proud of.

“All the staff here have been great – the gaffer, Flem (Curtis Fleming), Birchy (Marc Bircham). They gave me the opportunity and I’m just glad I was able to prove to them that what they saw in me was true.

“I want to keep pushing on. I am working towards my next contract now, that’s the way I look at it. Helping out the team and being of value to the squad is paramount.”

Manning will also be hoping to kick on next season and impress Ireland manager Martin O’Neill. With a number of players from the Championship being given their first call-up last season, including the likes of John Egan, Conor Hourihane and Liam Kelly, Manning will be aiming to be part of the latest generation of new Irish recruits.
