Jose Mourinho has singled out Paul Pogba after Manchester United’s 0-1 defeat at the hands of bottom-club West Brom at Old Trafford yesterday.
A Jay Rodriguez header in the 74th minute consigned United to an embarrassing defeat and in doing so, handed the Premier League title to Manchester City with five games remaining.
The result has heaped further pressure on Mourinho, whose side have been criticised at times this season for lacklustre performances which have led to a weak title challenge.
After the game, Mourinho, understandably, cut a frustrated figure but he singled out record signing Paul Pogba for some criticism after the Frenchman was substituted for Anthony Martial in the 58th minute.
Mourinho said that Pogba was complicating things by taking too many touches.
“Paul’s game was complicated like many others, always one more touch, one more turn,” said Mourinho.
“Ask them… [why Man Utd’s stars couldn’t build on last weeks win against City].
“In the first half, I felt I had to bring one player with more dynamic and a player that runs more and has more touches of the ball.
“I had to make a decision one midfield player out to bring in Jesse Lingard and then after that I wanted more width, and Paul had a yellow card and before that he had a situation not for a second yellow but you never know in football the way the referees react to that, so I reacted to that.”
