Watch: The Ugliest, Most Dramatic Minute Of Football You’re Ever Likely To See

No matter what level it’s at, football always has the power to surprise us.

We’ve witnessed Sergio Aguero win the league for Manchester City at the expense of the Citizens’ near neighbours, United, on the final day of the season back in 2012 and we’ve seen those very neighbours defy all the odds to beat Bayern Munich in the dying embers of the 1999 Champions League final.

While the stakes weren’t quite as high as this in a game over the weekend between Padiham and Widnes, it provided just as much drama, if not more, than those games mentioned above.

Playing in the North West Counties League, which is on the ninth rung of the English footballing ladder, the less than textbook football on offer as the game drew to a close resembled something more akin to an end-to-end five-a-side game than a full-blooded non-league clash.

With the clock ticking down to the final minute, Widnes looked to be cruising to a 3-1 win but the home side had other ideas as can be seen in the video below.

Commenting after the game, this is what Padiham boss Liam Smith had to say:

“Everyone wants a piece of it,” he told the Burnley Express.

“It’s mental, my phone has been going crazy. I think the clip captures every genre of film.

“There’s horror, comedy, thriller, action. It’s the craziest minute of football that I’ve ever been involved in. I’ve never witnessed anything like it.

“I didn’t realise that the goals were that close together. I thought the footage had been clipped. There’s a bit of everything in there and I would love Jamie Carragher and Gary Neville to analyse it.”

What should have really been a simple away win managed to turn into a 3-3 draw. Oh football, how we love you.
