Bilbao prospect Inaki Williams ensures that his future is at the San Mamés.
The Spaniard, who has been dubbed as ‘The New Aubameyang’, has pledged his future to Athletic Bilbao following rumours that Liverpool are interested in him, with a potential fee of £45 million said to be needed to prise him away from the La Liga club.
Having extended his contract in early 2016 by four years until June 2021, this greatly reduces the likelihood of him leaving.
Williams himself has responded to the rumours in an interview with AS.com, ruling out a move to Anfield.
“I’m happy at Athletic, it’s where I want to be.
“I want to continue here for many more years. I want to be Athletic’s future No.9 – the player who raises the roof at San Mamés every week and scores lots of goals.”
Williams has scored only once so far this season, in a 3-2 win over Real Sociedad last weekend. His faith in his ability is still high as he remains confident that he will score more frequently.
“Football is all about confidence and when you are feeling good, you’ll have a pop on goal wherever you are, and it’ll go in. I’m feeling good right now.”
Williams will be looking to impress in Bilbao’s next fixture at home to Osasuna. The recent injury of key striker Aritz Aduriz could prove to be an opportunity for him to make a big impression on the Lions’ manager, Ernesto Valverde.
