“I’m Disappointed In Myself” – Duffy Apologies For Red Card Offence

Republic of Ireland defender, Shane Duffy, has apologised for his actions that saw him receive a red card for Brighton during last night’s Premier League clash with Crystal Palace.

Brighton were leading 1-0, thanks to a Glen Murray goal, when Duffy was sent off in the 28th minute by referee, Kevin Friend, for headbutting Patrick van Aanholt after they had a penalty appeal waved away.

Despite being down to 10-men, Christ Hughton’s side held on for a 3-1 win with the other goals coming from Leon Balogun and Florin Andone.

Speaking after the game, Hughton had little sympathy for the 26-year-old.

“There is no hiding place for what Shane Duffy did. He knows better than that because he is an experienced international player. No one will know more than him that he can’t get away with that.”

“Unfortunately we will miss him for three games now due to suspension and that is a shame at this busy time of the season, but it is an opportunity for someone else.”

Duffy has taken to Twitter to apologise for his actions, stating that he is disappointed in himself.

“Can only apologise to everyone tonight for letting use down.  Grateful for the team we have here for a huge win tonight the boys were unbelievable! I’m disappointed in myself for even getting myself into the situation. What a win !!”

Duffy will now miss Brighton’s upcoming clashes with Burnley, Chelsea and Bournemouth.
