Manchester City’s Kevin De Bruyne and Chelsea’s Eden Hazard have been named in UEFA’s Team of the Year for 2017.
The Belgian duo are the only Premier League selections included in the list, with the team dominated by five selections from back-to-back Champions League winners Real Madrid.
PSG’s Dani Alves, Juventus’ Gianluigi Buffon and Giorgio Chiellini and Barcelona’s Lionel Messi complete the team.
In a vote decided by 8.8 million fans, De Bruyne has been recognised for his role in Manchester City’s stunning form so far this campaign, with the former Wolfsburg man establishing a reputation as one of the finest creative midfielders in world football at present.
Hazard has been acknowledged for his key role in guiding Antonio Conte’s Chelsea to the Premier League title in May, with the 27-year-old scoring 16 Premier League goals on their way to victory.
As is the norm, Real Madrid dominate the side – with Sergio Ramos, Marcelo, Luka Modric, Toni Kroos and Cristiano Ronaldo all included.

There is no place for PSG stars Neymar or Kylian Mbappe, despite their stunning individual form in 2017.
Many are also questioning how Harry Kane was omitted from the selection, with the 24-year old having scored 56 goals for club and country last year – more than any other player.

Manchester United goalkeeper David De Gea was also a surprise omission from the list – with many regarding the Spaniard the finest goalkeeper in world football.

How David De Gea isn’t on this is a joke

While the team has certainly thrown up a few controversies it is hard to deny the likes of Ronaldo and Messi their place.
However, if scoring more goals than any other player in 2017 isn’t worthy of a place in the side, then we’re not quite sure what is.
