Paul Merson was extremely emotional discussing the tragic passing of his friend and former teammate, Ugo Ehiogu.
On Thursday afternoon, the horrible news broke that former Premier League footballer Ugo Ehoigu had been rushed to hospital after collapsing at Tottenham’s training centre.
The 44-year-old was Spurs’ Under-23’s coach and despite receiving medical attention both on site and after being taken to the hospital in an ambulance, the tragic news of Ehiogu’s passing was confirmed on Friday morning.
Sky Sports Pundit Paul Merson had played with the legendary defender at Aston Villa and, speaking about his good friend, Merson found it hard to hold back the tears.
“I’m still devastated,” Merson said on Sky Sports News. “He was a man-mountain. Do you know what, Billy Joel always sings a song: ‘Only the good die young’.
“He was a top player, top bloke and a good friend as well. I spoked to him recently, he was always winding me up saying Tottenham have got some good players coming through.”
“It goes out to his family and everything. It’s so hard.”
