Watch: Martin O’Neill Reacts To Ireland Drawing Denmark In The World Cup Play-Offs

On Tuesday afternoon, the nation of Ireland held its breath as FIFA kicked off the official draw for the 2018 World Cup playoffs…

Heading into the proceedings, Ireland were looking at four potential opponents with Croatia, Denmark, Italy and Switzerland all listed as possibilities for Martin O’Neill’s men.

With Ireland unseeded, all four of the teams mentioned were ranked higher than the ‘Boys in Green’ in the official FIFA rankings. However, the Irish certainly had their preferences with polls indicating that over 60% of supporters were hoping to draw Denmark while just 2% were open to the idea of facing Croatia.

As it happened, the fan’s best case scenario panned out for Ireland as Denmark were drawn while Martin O’Neill’s side will also have the privilege of playing at home in the second leg.

However, in responding to the draw, the Irish manager was not getting in any way over excited as he remained entirely humble and professional in discussing the upcoming tie.
