Arsenal and Chelsea locked horns in Sunday afternoon’s Community Shield with several interesting talking points arising during the game.
Willian was booked for diving early in the game while many felt that there was contact made by Arsenal’s Hector Bellerin in the box.
Chelsea then took the lead through Victor Moses just two minutes into the second half before a reckless challenge from Pedro saw the Spanish international given his marching orders with a straight red.
From the resulting free kick, Arsenal’s new man Kolasinac equalised after a wonderful ball from Granit Xhaka and then, a penalty shootout awaited.
However, it wasn’t to be a regular shoot out after the new ‘ABBA’ format had been introduced by the FA for the Community shield.
Studies have apparently shown that a statistically unfair advantage goes to the team that shoots first in the traditional format and, as a result, the new format sees each team rotating with two shots each after the first penalty.
