Watch: Anthony Martial Almost Scored One Of The All Time Great Solo Goals vs St Etienne

Diego Maradona, Lionel Messi…. Anthony Martial?

Anthony Martial hasn’t exactly been having a blistering season for Manchester United. Fair to label his form as middling, the French forward has frequently been left out of Jose Mourinho’s starting line up of late.

However, playing against St Etienne in the Europa League last night, Martial was handed a rare start and, although the former Monaco man didn’t manage to score, he had Manchester United fans on the edge of their seats as he went on an incredible, pitch long run.

Picking up the ball deep inside his own half, Martial burst forward, charged past his marker and headed for the St Etienne box. When he got there, the 21-year-old kept going, dribbling past two further markers before eventually, releasing a shot on goal.

Unfortunately, Martial’s angle was too narrow when he was finally afforded the opportunity to shoot and the St Etienne keeper made a relatively easy save. However, had he finished, Martial’s effort would have surely been remembered as one of the great Manchester United solo goals.
