Barcelona And Real Madrid Dominate FIFPro World XI For 2016

Real Madrid and Barcelona have exercised high levels of dominance in FIFPro’s World Eleven for 2016.

In a team voted on by fellow footballers, the two Spanish sides have come out on top in a big way as they comprise nine of the eleven players in the side, with former Barca right-back Dani Alves (now of Juventus) also being included.

Champions League winners Real have five players in the side, as World Player of the Year favourite Cristiano Ronaldo is joined by Sergio Ramos, Marcelo, Toni Kroos and Luka Modric.

From the Barcelona side, the 2016 La Liga champions have four players in the lineup, with Gerard Piqué, Andrés Iniesta and Luis Suárez being names alongside Lionel Messi.

The remaining spot, and the only one to be filled with a player that has never had an affiliation with either of the Clásico rivals, is Bayern Munich and Germany goalkeeper Manuel Neuer.

Interestingly Antoine Griezmann, the third finalist for World Player of the Year alongside the aforementioned Ronaldo and Messi, is nowhere to be seen. Whether that should give some indication as to how far he will be behind the other two when it comes to the voting, but he is still expected to be a somewhat distant third despite the strong year he had for club and country.

The winner will be announced early on Monday evening.
