Wayne Rooney marked his second Everton debut in style – scoring a brilliant header in a 1-0 victory over Stoke for Ronald Koeman’s side.

Rooney left his boyhood club in 2004 to join Manchester United – where he would go on to win five Premier League titles, and become the all-time record goalscorer at Old Trafford with 253 goals.

Everton re-secured his services this summer, and thirteen years after his last Premier League goal for the club, the England captain popped up with the first of his new era with the Merseysiders.

Rooney picked up the ball and started the move, with the ball finding its way to Sandro Ramirez, who slid for Dominic Calvert-Lewin to cross, and the former Manchester United star leaped like a salmon in the air to direct a powerful header past Jack Butland and send the home supporters into raptures.

It proved to be a dream return as the goal turned out to be the decider, and judging by his jubilant celebrations – it seems as if ‘Wazza’ is happy to be back among the goals in blue colours.

If he produces performances like today’s man-of-the-match showing, it won’t be long until we see Rooney lead out the Three Lions once again – on the eve of a World Cup year.
