Sky Sports Report That John Terry Has An Offer To Leave Chelsea In January

Chelsea captain John Terry is nearing the end of his time at Stamford Bridge.

The 36-year-old has been at the club for virtually his entire career, but with his contract expiring at the end of the season and manager Antonio Conte not particularly minded to offer him an extension, a parting of the ways appears inevitable in the summer.

However, Terry’s departure could come a bit sooner. Sky Sports and the Telegraph are both reporting on Tuesday evening that AFC Bournemouth have enquired as to the possibility of taking Terry on loan until the end of the season.

With Chelsea recalling Nathan Aké earlier this week, the Cherries are down a defender and with the Dutch youngster’s return to his parent club plus Kurt Zouma’s return from injury, Conte may feel he sufficiently stocked at the back to allow the long-serving Terry to depart.

Indeed, the skipper was last seen being sent off for a somewhat desperate challenge against Peterborough in the FA Cup last weekend (for which he will serve a one-match ban) and beyond that appears to be wholly unsuited to the manager’s 3-4-3 tactical set-up.

That being said, convincing Terry to leave Chelsea ahead of time would be a huge ask. With the side currently leading the way in the Premier League title race, he is unlikely to want to give up the chance of celebrating a fifth league title at the end of the season – he has already stated that first team football is not as important to him as being part of another successful campaign, and persuading him to walk away from that to go to Bournemouth would be a major challenge.

Should he decide to stay untl the end of the campaign, his chances of getting another Premier League offer will have diminished but he could follow former teammates Frank Lampard and Ashley Cole and go to the MLS, or indeed he could earn a final massive payday in the Chinese Super League.

If Chelsea agree to the loan, Terry will have a big decision to make.
