CCTV footage has emerged of Ross Barkley being assaulted in a Liverpool bar in the early hours of Monday morning.
Barkley was pictured out after Everton’s thrilling 4 – 2 win over Leicester at Goodison Park on Sunday – a game in which the 23-year-old provided an assist for Romelu Lukaku with a stunning cross.
It appears from the footage that the Everton man was in conversation with the unidentified attacker until a flurry of punches were landed. After the blues midfielder has been knocked to the ground, the attacker in question was dragged away.
According to The Telegraph, the attack is reported to have happened in the Santa Chupitos cocktail bar in Liverpool city centre.
In a statement today, The England international’s lawyer has said:
“We can confirm Ross was the victim of an unprovoked attack by a stranger who approached him on Sunday evening.”
Merseyside Police have also confirmed that they are looking in to the incident. A spokesperson for the police force stated:
“Merseyside Police is aware of footage online reportedly showing an assault in a bar in Liverpool city centre.
“No report of an assault has been received but officers are making enquiries to establish the circumstances of the incident.”
Barkley tweeted this after the game on Sunday, before he hit the town:
