Liverpool are currently occupying third place in the Premier League behind just Chelsea and Spurs. They will be nervously looking over their shoulders at Man City who are just two points behind and with a game in hand. A little further back, Arsenal and Man United are six points behind the Merseysiders albeit with two games in hand. However, with a considerably more favourable run-in, Liverpool fans should be feeling confident of seeing Champions League football return to Anfield next season. http://gty.im/665034002
It has never been so close between the top six sides and there are going to be a few surprises along the way. No team can afford to lose two in a row before the season finishes or their chances will be gone. The next couple of matches should show which teams can handle the pressure and which crumble.
After drawing at home to Bournemouth, Liverpool will need to avoid dropping needless points if they are going to secure Champions League football next season.
Liverpool probably have the easiest remaining fixtures on paper out of the teams in the top six as they do not face any of the top placed seven clubs. Following Bournemouth’s visit to Anfield they travel away to Stoke City and West Brom. They then have Crystal Palace at home and after play away at Watford. The men from Merseyside then welcome Southampton to Anfield and visit London to play W http://gty.im/665034002 est Ham. Their last fixture is at home against relegation battlers Middlesbrough.
Liverpool this season have been sensational against the top teams, it is the bottom half of the table clubs they have struggled against. By playing their remaining matches against teams outside the bottom seven it gives the team and Klopp the chance to prove they have finally turned things around. It would be a disaster to not qualify for the Champions League having got into such a good position and the easiest fixtures left compared to the others.
It has not been a favourable campaign for injuries and Klopp has not had many opportunities to start his strongest team. If they are going to improve next season they will need to strengthen the squad so they can cope better when key men are out injured. They will have to cope without Sadio Maneas as with him in the team, they looked so much more dangerous going forward and he was their outstanding player of the season thus far. They do though have a fit and firing again Philippe Coutinho who fans will be hoping can step up and cover for Mane’s absence. One player they could do with returning from his injury is Adam Lallana who has been in good form this season.
Klopp has barely been able to select his strongest eleven this season for Liverpool, costing the club dearly in their title challenge earlier in the campaign. Now, with Chelsea still on course for the Premier League crown despite their loss to Crystal Palace, the Reds have to focus on securing a top four finish, which is within their grasp.
