Rio Ferdinand Names Two Players Manchester United Should Sign This Summer

As Manchester United’s transition continues under Jose Mourinho, attention has turned to what additions can turn the club into title contenders next season, having seemingly fallen short this campaign.

With many managers feeling the top targets are unlikely to move in the current transfer window that leaves the summer window as the crucial window where getting the key signings in lays the foundations for a successful campaign.

As reported in the Independentex red Rio Ferdinand has highlighted two key signings that Manchester United should pursue this summer if they want to challenge for the Premier league next season.

Not exactly allowing a budget to limit his imagination, Ferdinand has urged the club to splash the cash and sign both Atletico Madrid’s Antoine Griezmann and Real Madrid’s Gareth Bale.

“Manchester United have got the money, I’d go get both. They’re great players but I don’t think they’re comparable to be honest. They’re different players.”

“Gareth could play anywhere across the front-line. He’d be effective anywhere – from the right to the left, central.”

“If they became available, Manchester United have to be in that.”

Manchester United have been linked with Bale before when the Welshman left Tottenham in 2013 for Madrid. Ex United boss David Moyes recently revealed he had been hoping to sign the player then but Bale had his heart set on a move to the Bernabeu.

Antonie Griezmann has also been a long standing target of Manchester United with reports suggesting the player will move to the Premier League this summer with Atletico unwilling to do business with their fierce rivals Real Madrid.

The club plan to use his French teammate and close friend Paul Pogba to convince the player that a move to England with United will be a good move for the player.

Pogba recently spoke of his affection Griezmann.

“I always have good times when I’m with Grizou,”

“He’s my brother, we’re always together. When you’re feeling good away from the pitch it’s easier for you on the pitch, and that’s what’s happening with the France team.

“I’m very proud of him. I know what he’s been through. When he arrived at Atletico Madrid the first year, he wasn’t playing all the time, he was on the bench.

“He talked to me, saying he was frustrated, that it was hard as he wasn’t playing. After that he kept working hard, and now he’s one of the three nominees for The Best award. I’m very happy for him, especially to see a French player doing so well.”

While Ferdinand has high expectations like many Manchester united fans for this summer’s transfer window, a move for Griezmann, who was a Manchester united fan growing up, with David Beckham being his childhood idol, the number 7 shirt currently vacant and the prospect of playing with his good friend Pogba all the cards apparently are in Manchester United’s favour to sign the player.

If the club could also sign Gareth Bale as Ferdinand suggested they should, Manchester United fans will be in dreamland.
