Aaron Ramsey had been close to making a return for Arsenal.

Although Aaron Ramsey was expected to make his return to the Arsenal team in the coming days after limping off against Liverpool on the opening day of the season, Arsene Wenger has today confirmed that the midfielder will not be available until after the forthcoming international break.

In turn, this means that Ramsey will be unavailable for Arsenal’s next three fixtures against Chelsea, Basel and Burnley, along with Wales’ two upcoming World Cup qualifiers with Austria and Georgia.

According to The Telegraph, Ramsey was close to returning to full training, but had felt a pain in his hamstring in recent days. Consequently, Wenger has decided to err on the side of caution and not risk the talented 25 year-old.

“Aaron Ramsey is still struggling with his hamstring and I don’t think that he will be available for our next game against Basel or at Burnley, so before the break he will not be available,” said Wenger.

“He is not completely free in his mind yet to push completely, so we stop him every time when he has a little pain.

He is in the last days of his rehab and as long as he is not completely comfortable, we do not push him.

We had a few disappointments because he was close to joining again and every time he is not completely ready. Not far, but we have to be cautious with him”.

On a more positive note, Olivier Giroud could make his return from injury against Chelsea, when Wenger is expected to make wholesale changes to the side that beat Nottingham Forest mid-week.
