The Best FIFA Football Awards were held tonight in London with the world player, goal and coach of the year all named.
Cristiano Ronaldo was crowned Best FIFA Men’s Player Of The Year for the second consecutive year, beating Lionel Messi and Neymar to it respectively.
Ronaldo remains the only player to win the award having also won it last year in its inauguration.
The Portuguese superstar was favoured to take the gong having enjoyed a glorious season which saw him lead Real Madrid to a successful defence of the Champions League and as well as a La Liga triumph. So far, Ronaldo has netted 44 goals for club and national side this calendar year.
The FIFA Puskas Award (Goal Of The Year) was given to Olivier Giroud of Arsenal for his acrobatic scorpion kick against Crystal Palace back in January.
The memorable finish, put in with the most unique of techniques was given the award ahead of wonder strikes from South African goalkeeper Oscarine Masuluke and Venezuela’s Deyna Castellanos.
Meanwhile, Zinedine Zidane was rewarded with Coach Of The Year for his retention of European football’s top club prize with Madrid. The Frenchman has been a revelation in management since being given the post at Santiago Bernabaeu, winning a La Liga and two Champions Leagues.
