Anthony Joshua Confirms He Wants To Fight Tyson Fury Next Year

Anthony Joshua will defend his IBF and WBA heavyweight world title against Carlos Takam on October 28, but the English boxer has his sights set on a big grudge-match in 2018.

In an interview with Talksport (via The42) Joshua said he plans to fight former world champion, Tyson Fury, next year.

Joshua said:

“We speak man. Not like talk: ‘What’s happening mate.’ It’s: ‘I’m going to knock you out, trust me.’ Me and him will get down and dirty real soon, it’s just fighting talk.

“I’ve managed to contact him – he’s managed to contact me and everything you probably see on social is the same thing that happens behind the scenes.”

Fury was stripped of his title last year after testing positive for cocaine. Since then, he has failed to get his licence back from the British Boxing Board of Control but social media posts from the former champion say he is keen on returning to the ring.

However, this goes in contrast to statements he made earlier this month:

Should the Joshua-Fury fight go ahead, it promises to be one of the biggest fights in Britain in 2018.
